Srinagar/Islamabad — Tensions between India and Pakistan have dramatically intensified following a series of Indian airstrikes on multiple sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The strikes, launched under "Operation Sindoor," have resulted in at least 26 deaths and 46 injuries, according to Pakistani officials. India claims the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure linked to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

Pakistan has condemned the strikes as a "blatant act of war" and a violation of sovereignty, asserting its right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter. In retaliation, Pakistan reported shooting down five Indian fighter jets and engaging in artillery exchanges along the Line of Control, resulting in civilian casualties on both sides.

The international community, including the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, and Turkey, has expressed concern and urged restraint. Approximately 577 flights have been canceled, and residents in border areas have taken refuge in bunkers. The crisis has sparked fears of a broader conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations, prompting ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. The Guardian

This escalation marks the most severe India-Pakistan confrontation since the 1999 Kargil War, raising global fears of wider conflict. The Guardian
