Monaco Bombing Leaves Three Injured as Police Hunt International Suspect

MONACO — Authorities in Monaco have launched an international manhunt after a targeted bombing outside a residential building left three members of the same family seriously injured, marking one of the most significant violent incidents in the principality in recent years.

The explosion occurred on the evening of June 29 on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, close to Monaco's border with France. According to prosecutors, an explosive device concealed inside a backpack detonated as Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner and their teenage son returned home. All three suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospital, while the blast also damaged nearby buildings and vehicles.

Investigators have identified 39-year-old Ukrainian national Anastasiia Berezovska as the primary suspect. Officials allege she conducted surveillance of the area before planting the explosive device and later fled Monaco on foot into France. Authorities believe she subsequently traveled through several European countries before arriving in Germany.

An international arrest warrant has been issued, and Interpol has circulated a Red Notice requesting assistance from law enforcement agencies worldwide. German authorities have also searched locations connected to the suspect as investigators continue to trace her movements.

Monaco prosecutors are treating the case as attempted murder and the use of an explosive device in a public place. Investigators say there is currently no indication that the attack was motivated by terrorism, describing it instead as a targeted assault. Authorities are also examining whether additional individuals helped plan or carry out the bombing.

The intended target, Vadym Yermolaiev, is a Ukrainian-born businessman who later obtained Cypriot citizenship. He has previously faced sanctions imposed by Ukraine over alleged business activities involving Russian-occupied territories, allegations he has consistently denied. Officials have not confirmed whether those matters are connected to the attack.

The investigation remains active, with police in Monaco working alongside French, German and international law enforcement agencies to locate the suspect and determine the motive behind the bombing.

Security officials have described the incident as highly unusual for Monaco, a principality known for its low crime rate and extensive security presence. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the suspect's whereabouts to contact local law enforcement immediately.

Police have not announced any arrests beyond the identification of the primary suspect. Investigators continue to analyze surveillance footage, forensic evidence and electronic records as they seek to establish whether the bombing was carried out by a wider criminal network.
